Snake River Falls is located downstream of Merritt Dam. At the falls, the river plunges into a deep canyon associated with a beautiful Ponderosa Pine woodland (P. ponderosa ssp. Scopulorum). The Ponderosa pines here represent the easternmost edge of this type forest.
As part of the Niobrara valley, it is situated at the crossroads of the Northern Boreal and Eastern deciduous forests and wildlife. Ecologically important, the property is privately owned and managed in partnership with other conservation groups.
